Hope for the Struggling Parent

Parenting is hard work! I always thought once my children became adults, I wouldn’t have to worry about them anymore. I was so wrong! If you are like me, you made it a priority to instill godly values in your children with the idea that they would carry these values into adulthood. What should parents do when they see evidence that their children have walked away from their faith? Many believe they failed as a parent. One day while I was praying for my children, the Lord brought me to … [Read more...]

How I Conquered My Fear and Broke the Sound Barrier

Our summer vacation, last week, was filled with some much needed relaxation, family time and the acquisition of a new skill. The lake we visited, had two Sea-Doos available for our use. My cousin offered to teach me how to operate one, so I could join in the fun with my kiddos. I quickly declined, thinking she and my husband could drive the children, and I would watch safely from the shore. But, my former favorite relative refused to take no for an answer, and I found myself gripping a thin, … [Read more...]

Standing on the Word part 3

Galatians 6:9 NLT So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. Hebrews 10:35-36 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Standing on the word of God when everything we can see, is looking like our prayers are never going to get answered requires patience. God has given … [Read more...]

Standing on the Word part 2

When we talk about standing on God's word, it is not easy on our flesh. Our flesh or natural man lives by the 5 senses. It has to see before it believes. That's why we have to meditate on the verse of Scripture over and over again that deals with our problem. Romans 12:2: tells us that we have to renew our minds with the word of God. Then and only then can we begin to have God's peace while we wait for our prayers to be answered. So cut off the TV for a hour and use that time to renew your … [Read more...]

It’s time to draw close to God

James 4:7-8 NLT So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you... We are living in the last days. Now Jesus said that nobody knows when the end of time will come, except the father. But it is looking like all the signs are pointing to the end. There are wars and rumors of wars. Mass shootings in schools and churches and in public places. Our rights as Christians are being slowly taken away under the so called … [Read more...]

Don’t be a product of the times

This world is producing a lot of things. We produce more as a society than we ever have. We also consume more, it seems. Yet, as we produce more materially, we're also producing many unattractive qualities. We seem to have more undesirable traits being displayed. While we have more than we've ever had, maybe it's produced some undesirable results. I'm not very old, myself. Yet, I think of myself as an old school kind of thinker. I don't get wrapped up in a lot of the same things as other … [Read more...]

Lost In Fiction

A few years back I took my family to Home Depot to buy some materials for a side project we were doing for the house. I remember clearly, that it was a typical hot and Austin day. As a matter of fact it was too hot to take the kids outside to play, so we had a lazy day watching movies. We actually let our 2 and 4-year old kiddos watch the Chronicles of Narnia. We had seen it before, but our boys had not. They were used to shows like Veggie Tales, Handy Manny, & 300 (just kidding).  So to let … [Read more...]

When Life Seems too Difficult…

I often listen to audio sermons while cleaning the house.  I am able to get the many ‘necessary’ things done, while engaging my mind and furthering my understanding of spiritual matters.  For the most part, this is a purely intellectual exercise – increasing my knowledge of scripture, but not really leading to transformative change.  Since I am busy, I often neglect to quiet myself before God, and ‘listen’ to what He might have to say to my heart on the matter.  Every once in a while though, I … [Read more...]

Blinding Gray

Revelation 3:16: Blinding Gray Revelation 3:16 has always been a bit of a mystery to me since middle school, but the Holy Spirit has been pushing me to ponder and ask the Lord about it. It says “So then, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out My mouth.” I can hear the Lords urgency and zealousness over me with a description that uses His name, my name, and vomit all in the same sentence. What is difficult to hear is the possible reason for His use of this type … [Read more...]

Are Family Devotions Important?

Do you do devotions with your family? Truth be told I did not until several years ago. For me it is important to raise my children in the ways of the Lord. But the busyness of life kept me from taking time daily to talk with my kids much about the Lord. I mean face it. If you are not very intentional, you could go through life without teaching them a lot of things. The point is when you want your kids to learn something new, you are very intentional about making sure they are taught. God is not … [Read more...]
